Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that a writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution is maintainable against a private body when challenging an order passed in a quasi-judicial proceeding by a government officer. The Court restored the order of the Deputy Director of Education, which had set aside the management's decision to revert the appellant from Headmaster to Assistant Teacher, as neither the Deputy Director nor the Director had the power to review the earlier order. The Court clarified that the appellant was not seeking relief directly against the management but against the Director's improper exercise of jurisdiction.
