Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court examined the bifurcation of the Kerala Judicial Service into Civil and Criminal Judicial Services under the Kerala Judicial Service Rules, 1966. The Court held that the State Government has the competence to classify judicial services and that the classification made under the Rules is reasonable. The judgment affirmed the legality of the bifurcation process and the eligibility criteria for appointments within the newly formed services, thereby upholding the amendments made by the Government Orders dated September 24, 1959, and February 12, 1973.
