Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined whether Mangalore pattern roofing tiles fall under Entry 22 of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, added by the Gujarat Government. The Court held that the definition of 'scheduled employment' under Section 2(g) includes any employment specified in the Schedule, and thus, the manufacture of Mangalore pattern roofing tiles is covered under the potteries industry. Consequently, the Court upheld the applicability of minimum wage provisions to the appellants' industry.
