Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that Article 137 of the Limitation Act, 1963 applies to any petition or application filed under any Act to a Civil Court, including petitions under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. The Court overruled the previous decision in Town Municipal Council, Athani v. Presiding Officer Labour Court, Hubli & Ors., clarifying that the District Judge acts as a Civil Court in such matters. The appeal was allowed, affirming that the petition for enhanced compensation was not time-barred under Article 137.
