Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court interpreted Section 45(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939, regarding the jurisdiction for granting inter-regional permits. It held that the application must be made to the Regional Transport Authority of the region where the major portion of the proposed route lies or where the vehicle is to be kept if the areas are approximately equal. The Court found that the Mandya Regional Transport Authority had jurisdiction to grant the permit despite the State Road Transport Corporation's appeal, thereby reinstating the permit granted to the appellant.
