Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that disputes between Cooperative Central Banks and their employees regarding service conditions cannot be referred to the Registrar under Section 61 of the Andhra Pradesh Co-operative Societies Act, 1964, as such disputes do not touch the 'business' of the society. The Court clarified that 'business' refers to actual trading activities, and conditions of service are not included. The Industrial Tribunal has jurisdiction to decide these disputes under Section 10(1)(d) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, and the Registrar lacks the authority to grant relief that alters bye-laws governing service conditions.
