Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the order issued by the former Ruler of an Indian State providing an allowance to his brother was not a law under Article 372 of the Constitution of India. The Court determined that the order was an executive act and did not retain its legal status after the State lost its sovereignty. Consequently, the President was competent to reduce the allowance, and the High Court's decree in favor of the respondent was overturned.
