Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Jaipur Matmi Rules, 1945, specifically rule 5, the Idol, as the grantee of the lands, is not liable for Matmi dues, as the grants were made in favor of the Idol and not the Shebaits. The Court ruled that the order demanding payment from the Shebait was invalid since the dues could not be claimed from the Idol itself. Consequently, the Writ Petition filed by the Idol was maintainable, and the dismissal by the High Court was overturned.
