The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Section 16(1) read with Section 7(1) of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954, for selling butter that was below the prescribed standard. The Court clarified that butter made from curd falls within the definition of 'butter' as per Rule A-11, Appendix B of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules, 1955. It was held that even if no foreign substance was added, the failure to meet the standard renders the product adulterated.
