Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Bombay Personal Inams Abolition Act, 1952, affirming its protection under Article 31-A of the Constitution of India. The Court ruled that the Act validly allowed for the assessment of inam lands used for non-agricultural purposes under Section 52 of the Bombay Land Revenue Code, 1879. It clarified that the exception in Section 7 of the Act did not exempt such lands from the provisions of Sections 4 and 5, and that the assessment process was correctly applied in this case.
