Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court interpreted Notification No. 1131-46 issued under Section 2(4) of the Bombay Industrial Relations Act, 1946, determining that it did not extend to the head office of a sugar industry. The Court held that the Notification was intended to cover only the manufacture of sugar and its by-products, excluding administrative offices. Consequently, the dismissal of the respondent, a stenographer, was deemed lawful as the Labour Court lacked jurisdiction under the Act to entertain the application regarding his dismissal.
