Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that 'patelki huq inam' lands were granted as emoluments for the office of patel and could be resumed by the government. The court clarified that the inam was separate from the jagir and could not be freely alienated. It ruled that a member of the patel's family could not claim a share in the inam lands without performing the requisite service, affirming the government's right to regrant the lands to the officiating patel under the Patel and Patwaris Law, 1900, and Section 190 of the Berar Land Revenue Code, 1928. The court also stated that adverse possession claims against the government were not applicable in this context.
