Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 2(k) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, an individual workman cannot independently raise an industrial dispute unless it is taken up by a union or a considerable number of workmen. The Court ruled that the appellant was not entitled to separate representation as he was already represented by the union's secretary, and the compromise reached by the union was binding. The appeal against the High Court's dismissal of the writ petition was therefore dismissed.
