Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the Rajasthan Government's notification exempting Harijan and Muslim inhabitants from the cost of additional police force, as per Section 15 of the Police Act, 1861, violated Article 15(1) of the Constitution of India. The Court found that this exemption discriminated against law-abiding members of other communities based on caste and religion, rendering the notification invalid. Consequently, the Court declared the notification unconstitutional.
