Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the Sathi Lands (Restoration) Act, 1950, which declared the settlement of land with the appellants void, violated Article 14 of the Constitution by discriminating against the appellants without just cause. The Court found that the Act deprived the appellants of their right to have their dispute adjudicated by a judicial tribunal, thus contravening their right to equal protection under the law. The enactment was deemed unconstitutional and void, as it singled out the appellants for a disability not imposed on others.
