Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the amendment to Rule 268 of the Madras Motor Vehicles Rules, 1940, which empowered the Transport Authority to alter starting places and termini for motor vehicles. The Court found that this power was within the scope of Section 68(2)(r) of the Madras Motor Vehicles Act, 1939, and did not violate Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution, as the restrictions were deemed reasonable. The appeal against the High Court's dismissal of the writ petition was therefore rejected.
