Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the Waliuddowla Succession Act, 1950, which dismissed the claims of Mahboob Begum and Kadiran Begum to the estate of a deceased nobleman and prohibited them from seeking judicial recourse, violated Article 14 of the Constitution of India. The Court held that the Act was discriminatory as it unjustly singled out these claimants without a rational basis, thus contravening their rights under personal law. Consequently, the Act was declared void.
