Heard learned counsel for the parties and perused the records. By means of this petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution, petitioner has challenged the order of punishment passed by the appellate authority. Learned Standing Counsel has raised a preliminary objection as to the maintainability of the writ petition on the ground that petitioner has an alternative efficacious remedy of revision before the competent authority under the relevant provisions of Uttar Pradesh Police Officers of the subordinate Ranks (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1991. Learned counsel for the petitioner could not dispute the above legal position. In view of the above, while I decline to grant indulgence in the matter at this stage, I dispose of this petition with a direction that in the event petitioner prefers revision before the competent authority within a period of four weeks from today, the same shall be considered an
