HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT ALLAHABAD PUBLIC INTEREST LITIGATION (PIL) No. - 3706 of 2025 Arjit Mehrotra and another .....Petitioner(s) Versus University of Allahabad and 2 others .....Respondent(s) Counsel for Petitioner(s) : Anurag Shukla, Kumar Anubhav Counsel for Respondent(s) : Diptiman Singh Chief Justice's Court HON'BLE ARUN BHANSALI, CHIEF JUSTICE HON'BLE KSHITIJ SHAILENDRA, J. 1.This petition, purportedly in public interest, has been filed by the petitioners with the grievance that the information sought under the Right to Information Act, 2005 ('Act') has not been supplied. 2. Filing of a Public Interest Litigation for non-supply of information under the Act cannot be countenanced. The Act provides for mechanism in case information, as desired, is not supplied within a given time frame. 3. Filing of the Public Interest Litigation for the purpose essentially is misuse of the jurisdiction. Besides the fact, counsel for the respondents/University points out that petitioner no. 1 has made false averments in the petition. 4. Be that as it may, the petition cannot be entertained. The same is, therefore, dismissed. (Kshitij Shailendra, J) (Arun Bhansali, CJ) November 24, 2025 nd
