The present writ petition has been instituted under Article 226 of the Constitution of India by two petitioners, namely, Ms. Namita Khare and Ms. Mehak Talwar, who have been serving as ad- hoc Assistant Professors in the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi, for varying periods extending up to nine years. The petitioners state that they have been appointed after due advertisement and selection through proper procedure, though on an ad-hoc basis, and their services have been renewed successively, with artificial breaks, over the years. Their appointments have been made in accordance with resolutions passed by the Executive Council of the University and through open advertisements, notified on the University website. 3
