Review Translations Side by Side With the Original

Checking a translation means moving between the source and the result, and switching back and forth between two windows is where mistakes hide. Completed translation jobs now open in a synchronised side-by-side view, so you can verify the translation against its source without losing your place.

What changed

Translation jobs now open in a side-by-side review layout. The source document appears on one side and the translation on the other. Both panels scroll together, keeping matching passages aligned as you work down the document. You read across — source and translation on the same line of sight — rather than navigating back and forth between separate views.

The layout adjusts for differences in text length. When a translated paragraph runs longer or shorter than its source, the panels compensate so alignment is maintained across section and page boundaries. This applies to documents you upload directly and to scanned documents processed through the OCR pipeline before translation.

How to use it

1. Open a completed translation job from your Translation history.
2. Switch to the side-by-side review layout from the review panel.
3. Scroll through the document. Both panels move together, keeping source and translation aligned.
4. Where a passage needs closer attention, compare it directly against the original on the same line of sight. There is no need to remember your position in the source while reading the translation.
5. Pay particular attention to proper names, dates, figures, and legal terms of art — these are where translation differences are most consequential and where a side-by-side read is most useful.
6. Export or copy the translation from the same view once you are satisfied.

Why it matters

A translation is only useful if you trust it, and trust comes from verification. The obstacle to careful verification is usually not the time it takes — it is the friction of switching between two documents that are not physically adjacent. When that friction disappears, checking becomes a natural part of reading rather than a separate step that gets skipped under pressure.

For legal documents — notices, affidavits, agreements, orders — the consequences of a mistranslation can be significant. A date rendered incorrectly, a party name that drifts across pages, a term of art translated with the wrong nuance: these are the errors a careful side-by-side read will catch and a quick scan will miss. The layout is built around that careful read.

For documents produced through the OCR pipeline, side-by-side review also surfaces recognition errors that would not be obvious otherwise. Seeing the source image and the translated text together makes OCR artifacts visible in context, giving you the chance to correct them before you export.
