The present petition has been filed under Article 227 of the Constitution of India, seeking setting aside of the impugned order dated 09.08.2024, passed by the learned Rent Controller, Amritsar, whereby the defence of the petitioner-defendant was struck off on account of non-filing of the written statement. 2. Briefly, the facts are that the respondent-landlady instituted an ejectment petition under Section 13 of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949 against the petitioner-tenant. On 19.02.2024, the petitioner appeared before the learned trial Court for the first time. Vide order dated 09.08.2024, the learned trial Court struck off the defence of the petitioner on the ground of non-filing of the written statement. 3.
